7 days, 112 milesOn Shade was developed during a residency at Latitude in Chicago as an experiment in expanding the group walk format into performance. The work unfolded in the early morning of a 95º day, leading participants through Chicago’s Loop along a route shaped by sites of shadow, cooling, and concealment.

The route functioned as a score: at predetermined sites, I activated fragments of a written text, aligning physical shade with linguistic, infrastructural, and symbolic forms of shelter. At locations including the Wabash EL, the Centrio Thermal Cooling Plant, Federal Plaza, and the Cultural Center, passages were read aloud and heard collectively, turning the city’s infrastructure into both subject and stage.
