Alex Wolfe

I am an artist, writer, and educator from Iowa, currently living in New York City. My writing, objects, and photography stem from my movement on foot, exploring the passage of time and the impermanence of experience. Through my practice, I seek to establish a sense of place, capturing the nuanced interplay between memory and landscape.

Notable walks include 180 miles from Brooklyn to Philadelphia (9 days), 115 miles across Los Angeles (7 days), 160 miles along the entire length of Long Island (9 days), and 400 miles in 10 different East Coast cities (30 days). I am also the founder and former editor of Pedestrian, a magazine for people who like to walk and move (RIP).

My work is held in the collections of the New York Public Library and the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection. I have guest lectured at or led walks for institutions and organizations such as Princeton University, the Swiss Institute, Salomon, the Municipal Art Society of New York, Index, and Parsons School of Design.
